(MELBOURNE)  Please see the number of Hindu temples destroyed or damaged in the Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka. Some of them were destroyed during the conflict, but others were deliberately destroyed by the Sinhalese army.

Even during conflict, it is generally accepted international law that religious places should not be shelled or bombed by the combatants. That is the reason why nearly all the churches survived the both the World War I & II. Very few churches were destroyed during these wars. The LTTE observed this rule, but did the Sinhalese observe this rule? During the conflict, they did prevent the destruction of churches and mosques, as they were trying to appease the Western powers and the local and Middle Eastern Muslims to gain their support.

It is only after the end of the conflict in May 2009, they began attacking the mosque and churches. In any case there are not many temples left for them to destroy.

This is an analysis of the destruction of the temples.
Total names of damaged temples given in this list = 1342
Total number of temples destroyed in the NorthEast = 2076

According to the Ministry of Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs - 04/10/1993
Number of registered Temples = 1607
Number of damaged Temples = 1479
Estimated cost of Repairs/Re-building in rupees = 283,091,292.00

I suppose the other temples are unregistered and, therefore, are not included in the above list. Some temples are demolished and taken over by the military for their use or to build Buddhist temples over the demolished Hindu Temples. This is the cultural genocide that is going on.

Further, the Sinhalese from the south are brought in large numbers to settle in the lands taken over from the Tamils. The Sinhalese soldiers are given bonuses to encourage them to have many children and they are expected to settle in the Tamil areas they are deployed. For this, the camps are regularly expanded by taking over state lands, in addition to the Tamil lands. In these lands, the soldiers grow vegetables and sell them at a cheaper price locally to deprive the local Tamil population of their livelihood.

The Tamil women are deceitfully sterilised to reduce the Tamil population. This is how demographic changes or genocide taking place in the Tamil Homeland.
