Orrin Hatch is working for the wrong side…

(MYRTLE BEACH)   Someone may want to inform Senator Claire McCaskill that her recent call for an investigation into the prescription opioid epidemic was already launched by the U.S. Finance Committee in 2012 and as of 2017 there is still no report.  So why would McCaskill demand action on an epidemic killing in the thousands every year when she is aware the waters are not unchartered?  Let me try to enlighten those people, including McCaskill, why not everyone is buying what she is selling.

Is the U.S. Senate responsible for thousands of deaths in sealing their fact finding report on drug epidemic?

How many lives could have been saved — especially our young people if in 2007 Patrick Leahy had replied to me “We are taking this epidemic seriously and are launching an investigation to stem the loss of life to addiction and death.”

(MYRTLE BEACH)  On May 9, 2012 the U.S. Senate Finance Committee announced an investigation into the prescription opioid epidemic waging a war of addiction and death throughout the U.S.  Their investigation was to be focused on the American Pain Foundation (they closed their doors when the investigation was announced), the Center for Practical Bioethics, and five other organizations. It also targeted three leading opioid makers: Purdue Pharma (OxyContin), Endo Pharmaceuticals (Percocet), and Johnson & Johnson (Duragesic). The Senate Finance Committee demanded to see documents and get answers to their questions.

Without prevention, outrage and leadership, the Prescription Opioid/Heroin Epidemic will worsen in 2017

It will not be a good year for many in 2017 — for others, it will be very lucrative and his name is George Soros as a benefactor to “hitched stars.”

(MYRTLE BEACH)  I recently wrote an article for Global News Centre and Salem-News.com that generated quite a flurry of concern and discussion — the evil reach of George Soros in his attempts to legalize drugs in the U.S. and also Partnership for a Drug Free Kids funded by the FDA and Purdue Pharma, maker of OxyContin.  Links to these articles are shown below.

The word is “credibility” not “stigma” in the prescription opioid/heroin epidemic!

This past week CNN broadcast an Anderson Cooper interview on the prescription opioid/heroin epidemic at a Town Hall Meeting.

(MYRTLE BEACH)  CNN has been accused by the U.S. Pain Foundation, a lobbying group for pharma in catering to the needs of chronic pain patients in their use of long term opioids, at stigmatizing the pain patients.  Paul Gileno, Founder and President of the foundation was “deeply troubled and disappointed by the one-sided, biased discussion surrounding pain medication that completely disregarded the voices of people living with debilitating pain” during the broadcast.

Every time the word “stigma” is used in describing addiction, the pharmaceutical industry and their heavily funded pain foundation lobbying groups uses the word “stigma” to describe the chronic pain patient being denied long term addictive opioid treatment.

(MYRTLE BEACH)   In the 14 years I have been writing about the prescription opioid crisis which has evolved into a heroin epidemic, my frustration level has elevated.  In July 2007, I testified in front of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee about OxyContin and the criminal conviction of Purdue Pharma, maker of OxyContin.  My testimony is shown here:

First in a series – the smoking gun in the prescription opioid/heroin death toll

200131720-001Why are organizations advocating for families devastated by death and addiction in record numbers not calling for treatment of the disease of addiction?

Marianne Skolek Global News Centre

(MYRTLE BEACH) Many parents held a “talk to your children about addiction over dinner on 11/19.”  It was a means of “educating” children about drugs and addiction.  This dialogue over dinner was encouraged by many organizations some funded by the pharmaceutical industry such as Partnership for a Drug Free Kids.  I don’t think there is a family or a teenager in this country who has not lost a relative or friend due to prescription opioid/heroin addiction.  So to encourage families to “talk about addiction” on a particular night at the dinner table is interesting. We don’t encourage families to discuss cancer over the dinner table on a designated night.  We treat cancer as the disease it is.  Why don’t we treat addiction as the disease it is?

Sackler Family, owners of the maker of OxyContin make list of America’s Richest

sacklersSince the Sackler family has attained the American dream in becoming multi-billionaires 14 times over, why don’t families consider having the Sacklers build state of the art medical facilities throughout the country to treat the disease of addiction?

Marianne Skolek Global News Centre

(MYRTLE BEACH) As families throughout the U.S. are losing their children to addiction and death because of the criminal lies in the marketing of OxyContin, the Sackler family lives a life style most people could only imagine.

Target Stores mock parents who have lost children to the prescription opioid/heroin epidemic!

(MYRTLE BEACH)  Target Stores have been promoting a “Spritz Halloween Syringe Pen” for sale in their “family” stores all over the country.  (Photo of syringe pens are shown).  When I learned of Target’s outrageous retail practice of profiting from a drug epidemic which is resulting in deaths and addictions in the tens of thousands, I emailed the following to John Mulligan, Executive VP:

U.S. Senators are Outraged by FDA approving OxyContin for Children!

One of the quotes in the Aljazeera America TV piece delivered by Webster to a now deceased patient’s family was “A chronic pain sufferer could not become an addict.”

(MYRTLE BEACH)   I have written articles for Global News Centre and Salem-News.com regarding the FDA’s approval of OxyContin for children.  In 2009 and 2011, I warned that the maker of OxyContin, Purdue Pharma was positioning to have their killer opioid marketed for pain in children as well as something they called “pregnancy pain.”  (See links below to my articles).  After I made a complaint to the FDA, Purdue Pharma was advised by officials from the “watchdogs of America” (FDA) via conference call to cease and desist any and all marketing of OxyContin for “pregnancy pain.”

(MYRTLE BEACH)   On Monday, August 31 at 10 pm ET and 7 pm PT Aljazeera America Television will be broadcasting a program entitled “Fault Lines – How a Utah Woman Got Hooked on Painkillers.”  Here is a link to a preview of that show – http://america.aljazeera.com/watch/shows/fault-lines/2015/8/how-did-a-utah-woman-get-hooked-on-painkillers.html

The program focuses on a woman who was a patient of Lynn R. Webster, MD, head of Life Tree Pain Clinic in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Dr. Webster’s pain clinic had been raided by the D.E.A. in 2010 because of high numbers of deaths while patients were under his treatment.  During an interview, Webster had said “I do not know precisely how many former clinic patients died of an opioid overdose. At most it could be 20.  Many of those probably were suicides. I don’t think any of the deaths were for scripts I wrote. They were from staff.”  (In some states, including Utah, nurse practitioners and physician assistants can write prescriptions if they are supervised by a physician — and the prescription is signed by a physician.  Was this called throwing your staff under the bus, Dr. Webster?)

The threats and costs of war

Operation Enduring FreedomeThe direct and indirect costs of war

By John Scales Avery

(JUST)  The costs of war, both direct and indirect, are so enormous that they are almost beyond comprehension. Globally, the institution of war interferes seriously with the use of tax money for constructive and peaceful purposes.

Today, despite the end of the Cold War, the world spends roughly 1.7 trillion (i.e. 1.7 million million) US dollars each year on armaments. This colossal flood of money could have been used instead for education, famine relief, development of infrastructure, or on urgently needed public health measures.
